About OSHO
OSHO : WHAT IS IT?
The Oromia Self-Help Organization (OSHO) is non-political and non-religious humanitarian organization founded in 1991 with the aim of contributing to relief, rehabilitation and development efforts in the Oromiya Region.
Since its establishment OSHO was engaged in the implementation of relief, rehabilitation and development activities in different zones of Oromiya. In the process the organization has improved its capacity and smoothly shifted from implementation of only relief and single sectoral development projects to multi-sectoral / integrated development programmes that focus on food insecure woredas of Oromia

“OSHO works to undertake sustainable, community based and environmental friendly integrated social and economic development programs to enhance the living standards of the people in Oromia Region through implementation of participatory water resource development, climate change resilience, food security, social protection and capacity building initiatives in both sedentary and pastoral areas”
MISSION
Objectives
- Aware/initiate communities to utilize locally available development potential,
- Assist needy communities financially, materially and technically to solve their felt need socio-economic problem,
- Undertake environmental, forest and climate change, wash, irrigation and infrastructure development, agriculture, food and nutrition security, gender, social inclusion and youth development, enhanced citizen responsive governance ( social accountability) and organizational capacity development
- Improve women’s participation in all development endeavors,
- Participate in emergency relief activities when deemed necessary

OSHO’s values and principles are guidelines for its staff and other stakeholders that govern the operation of the organization. This values and principles are:
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
OSHO has a General Assembly in which all its stakeholders participate to make decision on policy issues. It has also a Board drawn from the General Assembly composed of highly reputed and professionally qualified personalities. To realise a collective leadership a Managing Team, chaired by the General Manager is in place. The Managing Team is composed of department heads programme / project managers. All programmes / projects run by OSHO have their own organizational structures based on the generally accepted principles and donor specific conditions. This dynamic structure is always subject to revision based on the expansion of the program
THE STAFF
OSHO has very stable, committed, qualified, skilled and non-skilled personnel both at project levels and at the head office. Following the preparation and approval of the new five years strategic plan (2022-2026) multi discipline employees are expected to join OSHO
OFFICE
OSHo’s Head Quarter is located in the center of the town facing the Addis Ababa Commercial College. Its office is a ground plus one modern Government building. OSHO has a plan to construct its own office both in Adama and Addis Ababa. It has also own office with a plant at Modjo town for the de-fluoridation intervention.
AUDIT
Recognized external auditors properly audit OSHO’s financial transactions at the head office and at the project levels regularly. To this end all projects are audited up to end of 2023
MANAGEMENT TOOLS
Continuous efforts have been made to refine the management systems of OSHO and as a result, organizational manuals were prepared, updated and put into practice

MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Monitoring and Evaluation Procedures are developed and implemented. Based on this, perpetual and periodic monitoring and evaluations have been conducted for all projects / programs by independent consultants and line department professionals. As a part of management activity monitoring and evaluation tools are in place and are essentially implemented during the implementation and after the completion of all projects.

Previous Projects
Relief assistance
Relief food items was provided to 71,100 beneficiaries in Arsi, East Harage, East and West Wollega, and Illubabor zones during 1992-1995, with the fund of ETB 1,075,832 obtained from DPPC, CRDA, ICRC, UNICEF, & IIRO.
Grain mill installation/1994
Five Mills were installed in Arsi zone / Chole, Jeju, Aseko, Merti and Abajama woredas with the fund of ETB 149,545 obtained from GAA in 1994-1996 and 18000 people benefited.
Repatriation of Ethiopian refugees from the Sudan:
During 1993-1998, repatriation of Ethiopian refugees from the Sudan was undertaken to Oromia, Addis Ababa,
Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, and Somalia, with the fund of ETB4,542,057 obtained from UNHCR, ARRA. In this programme 3408 returnees have been repatriated and assisted with an IGG of ETB 1,500 each, house hold utensils, blanket, plastic sheet and nine months food ration.
Emergency food aid:
OSHO was involved in addressing the food gap created in its operational areas in the year 2000/2001. A total of 6423
MT of Cereals and 140MT of supplementary food donated by the European Union direct and through the GAA (5830 MT cereals and 140 MT supplementary food); and the donation from the OCAA (593 MT of cereals) was distributed to 146,897 affected population in Zeway Dugda, Merti and Gololcha woredas of Arsi
zone and Daro Lebu of West Hararghe on EGS/FFW basis. Different natural resource conservation and social service activities were performed through EGS/FFW program
Inchini water supply project
With the fund of ETB 402,652 obtained from CAA, CIDA and ODA water supply project was constructed for Inchini Rural town of West Shoa zone during 1994-1997. The project serves a total of about 10,000 people.
Repatriation of Ethiopian refugees from the Sudan:
During 1993-1998, repatriation of Ethiopian refugees from the Sudan was undertaken to Oromia, Addis Ababa,
Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, and Somalia, with the fund of ETB 4,542,057 obtained from UNHCR, ARRA. In this programme 3408 returnees have been repatriated and assisted with an IGG of ETB 1,500 each, house hold utensils, blanket, plastic sheet and nine months food ration.
Tsige Mariam water development project
With the fund of ETB 220,275 obtained from GAA during 1996-1998 in Tsige Mariam, East Wollega, water
development project was undertaken and 1600 people now benefit.
Gabaya Dilbata and Gallo clinic water supply and sanitation project:
With a total budget of ETB 208,400 obtained from GAA during 2000-2001 Gebeya Dilbeta and Galo Clinic, East Wollega, water supply and sanitation programmes were successfully accomplished and about 6,000 people are benefiting.
Abura rural town water supply and sanitation project:
During 1998-1999 with a total budget of ETB 885,000 obtained from Ethio -Italian cooperation in Zeway Dugda woreda Abura rural town of Arsi zone, water supply and sanitation project was successfully accomplished and is serving a total population of about 5000.
Ziway Dugda water development project:
With a total budget of ETB 574,000 obtained from OCAA during 1997-1999 in Zeway Dugda woreda of Arsi zone, 31 wells drilled and equipped with hand pumps in 24 PA’s. This project was completed and is providing potable water for about 24000 people.
Darara Dalacha water supply and sanitation project:
With the total budget of ETB 450,000 obtained from OCAA, 10 wells were drilled and equipped with all necessary facilities and are serving about 10,000 people of Darara Dalacha area in Arsi and East Shoa zones.
Arata water supply and sanitation project:
Ethio-Italy/UNOPS/ ICU financed this project with a total budget of ETB 1,223,561 spring water was developed and all necessary systems constructed. About 10,000 beneficiaries of Arata and the environs (Arsi zone) are using the system.
